Press Release - 17th May 2010
A COALITION THAT WORKS
The International Paint Poole Regatta 2010 is proof that Coalitions can work. For the last ten years this biannual event has been successfully run by a Coalition of the combined yacht clubs of Poole and has gone from strength to strength.
This years regatta being held over the Whitsun weekend 29th-31st May looks like being the best yet with entries coming in fast for a range of National and area championships as well as one design, IRC and local handicap classes.
Visiting yachts will be met by Ribs at the harbour entrance on the Friday and shown where the various marinas are. A free water taxi service is being run between the club marinas and Poole boat haven to help competitors get to the daily prizegivings and social events. On Saturday Poole Yacht Club are billing the Battle of the bands with Two live bands at different ends of the club as well as hot food and drink promotions. On Sunday evening not to be outdone Parkstone Yacht Club have booked one of the countries top rock and roll bands and there is rumoured to be a prize for the first pair of blue suede Dubarry’s seen on the dance floor. Parkstone are also offering hot food and drinks promotions.
The three days of racing will take place in Poole bay for most fleets while some of the smaller classes will race within Poole harbour. Poole bay is known to provide some of the best sailing waters on the south coast while Poole harbour where the winds can be completely different can also provide fantastic sailing conditions. Yachts entered so far range from 2.4m mini keelboats that are sailed in a fiercely competitive way to a 50-foot ex round the world racer.
Standard price entry is still available until 24th May, entries and payment can be made online via the event website www.pooleregatta.co.uk A percentage of all entry fees are being donated to Poole Regattas nominated charity Toe in the Water who all sailors feel are a worthwhile and deserving cause.
The regatta committee, the combined yacht clubs of Poole and the yachtsmen and yachtswomen of Poole all look forward to meeting and racing with the visiting crews and yachts for a long weekend of fun on and off the water.
In the meantime let's all hope that other Coalition can do as well as the combined yacht clubs of Poole
