1 ORGANISING CLUBS AND SPONSORS
1.1 The Poole Regatta is organised by the Combined Yacht Clubs of Poole in conjunction with PYRA, Parkstone Yacht Club, Poole Yacht Club and Royal Motor Yacht Club, with the help and co-operation of a wide range of associate sponsors.
2 RULES
2.1 The event will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008 (RRS), the prescriptions of the RYA, the rules of each class concerned, and the Sailing Instructions issued for the event.
2.2 J24s: Boats and rudders must stay in the water from the start to the end of the Regatta, unless written authority is given by the Race Committee.
2.3 The Dehler Cup will be run in conjunction with the main Regatta, and will be open to all Dehler Yachts.
3 ADVERTISING
3.1 The event is designated Category C for all classes. In all cases, advertising in conflict with the sponsors of the event will not be permitted.
3.2 ALL CLASSES: The organising authority may require competitors to display a sponsor’s flag and/or decal or sticker on the bow, comprising of up to 20% of the hull.
4 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
4.1 The Regatta is open to all boats of the following classes:
HANDICAP Classes: It is anticipated that there will be four IRC classes, two PHHS (Poole Harbour Handicap System) classes, one Gentleman’s class and up to two MOCRA classes.
Division of IRC, MOCRA and PHHS classes will depend on the Rating and the number of entries received.
ONE DESIGN: Sigma 38 class, Sigma 33 class, J24 class, Sonata class, XOD class, Flying Fifteen class, R19 class, Redwing class, Shrimper class and 2.4m class.
Dehlers with IRC Certificates will race in the IRC classes; all other Dehlers will race in the PHHS (Poole Harbour Handicap System) class.
(Entrants requiring a PHHS rating should complete a rating form and submit it to the Event Secretary. A rating will be supplied Free of Charge).
4.2 Entries shall be made on the official Entry Form and be submitted on or before 19 th May 2008.
4.3 A daily rate is available at ½ the 3-day rate.
4.4 Late entries will be accepted only at the discretion of the Race Committee. A surcharge of 50% of the Entry Fee will be made on all late entries after 19 th May 2008.
4.5 Entries made before 19 th May 2008 may be withdrawn subject to a surcharge of 20% of the relevant Entry Fee.

6 SCHEDULE
(Times approximate at the time of going to press).
6.1 Registration
Registration must be completed before the start of the boat’s first race. The registration points will be as per entry form. Failure to register will result in NO scores being recorded.
Registration will be open on Friday 23 rd May from 09.00 hrs until 21.00 hrs
and on Saturday 24 th May from 08.00 hrs until 10.00 hrs
Alternative registration may be available - contact the Regatta Secretary for details.
6.2 Programme (Provisional)

7 MEASUREMENT
7.1 Certificates
One Design Classes: All competitors shall be in possession of a current certificate, as required by the respective Class Rules, throughout the event. J24s need to produce International Class Certificate, and a copy of Required and Optional Equipment .
Handicap Classes (IRC/PHHS/MOCRA): All competitors shall be in possession of a current handicap certificate issued by the relevant authority, a copy of which shall be lodged with the organising authority prior to taking part.
8 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
8.1 Sailing Instructions will be sent to entrants at the address given on the Entry Form after 19 th May 2008. Late entries must contact the Event Secretary to arrange collection of Sailing Instructions.
9 VENUE
9.1 Racing will take place in Poole Bay, Poole Harbour and adjacent waters (as appropriate).
Detailed charts will be on the website and in competitors’ packs.
10 COURSES
10.1 The courses to be sailed will be described in the Sailing Instructions.
11 PENALTY SYSTEM
RRS 44.1 shall apply.
12 SCORING
12.1 RRS Appendix A2 and A4 low points scoring system will apply.
12.2 Boats entered for the Dehler Cup will be scored within their class counting only Dehlers.
13 SAFETY
13.1 One Design Classes: All competitors shall conform to the Safety requirements of their respective Class Rules.
All Other Classes: All competitors shall conform to the requirements of ORC Category 4, and be issued with a minimum SSSN 10, or equivalent.
13.2 Crew Limits
IRC Rule 27.4.1 shall not apply.
14 COMMUNICATIONS
14.1 Communications with IRC, Sigma 38, Sigma 33, MOCRA, J24, Sonata, Shrimper, PHHS and Gentleman’s classes will be by VHF radio. For all other classes course indicator boards will be used.
15 PRIZES
15.1 Trophies and Prizes will be awarded as 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd for each class depending upon the number of entries. 1 st voucher £100, 2 nd voucher £50, 3 rd voucher £25.
15.2 Any trophies awarded will be perpetual.
15.3 The Poole Regatta Trophy will be awarded at the sole discretion of the organising authority to the boat producing the most creditable performance.
15.4 A full list of prizes will be available before the start.
15.5 Additional random prizes will be awarded to each class. The prize fund is currently in excess of £5000 as we go to press.
15.6 Daily prizes will be awarded to race winners in each class (if a winner is not present, the prize will be awarded to the highest finisher in attendance in each class).
16 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
16.1 The Sponsors, The Combined Yacht Clubs of Poole and their members are providing this series of races only on the understanding that the clubs, their representatives and/or members bear no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury or inconvenience to the boats or persons howsoever arising directly or indirectly by any accident or wrongful negligent act, default or omission of any member or any person during the Poole Regatta 2008 races and any other related activity. Owners shall acknowledge their responsibility on the official entry form, and draw the attention of their crew to this disclaimer before the start of any race. Competitors participate in the Regatta entirely at their own risk, see rule 4 Decision to Race.
17 INSURANCE
17.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance (with a minimum cover of £2 million).
18 SOCIAL EVENTS, SECURITY, TRANSPORT & ENTERTAINMENT
18.1 A full and varied programme of social events will be provided at Royal Motor Yacht Club, Poole Yacht Club and Parkstone Yacht Club, details of which will be issued with the Sailing Instructions, including any necessary booking arrangements.
18.2 Crew passes will be issued and these must be carried at all times when visiting any of the organising Yacht Clubs.
18.3 Crew Buses or Water Taxis may be provided to transport competitors properly listed on the official Entry Form. Crew Passes must be shown to the driver. Transport times will coincide with the social events being provided at the three Yacht Clubs.
